Goals of the Meeting

  • To share hard-won knowledge on how to manage effective conservation programs.
  • To promote high-quality connections between conservationists with similar challenges working in different organizations and contexts.
  • To celebrate the achievements of the conservation sector this century and provide hope and direction in times of stress and despair.

Context and Summary

The Effective Conservation Training Initiative (ECTI) was created in 2022 to train, empower and connect conservationists with leadership potential who work for organizations implementing some of the world’s best landscape conservation programs. Since 2023, a total of 75 trainees from five continents and 22 countries have participated in our courses (3 in English and 1 in Spanish). This has established a global network of next-generation conservation leaders who are engaged in a continuous exchange of news and information through an online group, combined with 4–5 virtual group sessions per year.

The Effective Conservation in Action public event will be the closing activity for the First Global Meeting of ECTI alumni, and will host a selection of these alumni, as well as conservation practitioners, academics, students, donors, and communicators from all over the world. During the event, leading conservationists will present their experience managing some of the best landscape restoration initiatives around the world, connecting biodiversity outcomes with benefits to local communities and wider society.

Also, CEOs from outstanding conservation organizations will reflect on their challenges, opportunities and their hard-won lessons. Finally, a group of ECTI’s participants will share with a wider audience what it means to engage in day-to-day conservation in wild landscapes.
