First Global Meeting of Conservation Translocation Practitioners

In May 2022, more than 100 conservation translocation practitioners from around the globe met in the city of Valencia (Spain) to share hard-won knowledge and build professional connections. The Effective Conservation Training Initiative emerged from the conversations sparked during that meeting and reflects the spirit of collaboration, practice-based knowledge, and “learning from the best” that has guided our program ever since.

You can see the program and talks from that event here.

First Global Meeting of ECTI Alumni

In May 2026, 28 conservationists representing four continents, 14 countries, and 10 conservation organizations came together in Spain for a week dedicated to strengthening the ECTI alumni community, deepening relationships, exchanging concerns and insights, and “refilling their batteries” before returning energized and inspired to their day-to-day conservation work in the field.

The gathering brought together alumni from our leadership courses and marked a watershed moment in the development of a continuous learning and networking process, as well as an expanding global community of conservationists united by a shared approach to team leadership and stakeholder engagement.

The gathering concluded with the public event “Effective Conservation in Action”, held at the Oceanogràfic in Valencia (Spain). Over the course of three days, more than 100 participants (including the 28 ECTI alumni) had the opportunity to hear presentations on some of the world’s most outstanding landscape conservation initiatives and some of today’s most innovative and influential conservation organizations. The event also provided ample time and space for productive conversations and exchange among participants.
